We caught up with Elizabeth Beisel after a very eventful evening Thursday at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis. Beisel chatted about the drama in the women's 400m IM, making her 10th consecutive international team, what she brings to Team USA, and much more.
So what happened?
Unfortunately the women's 400m IM A-final Thursday night came with some drama. Stanford's Ella Eastin touched for second, but it was announced shortly after that she was disqualified for "swimming more than 1/4 of race backstroke."
What does this mean? The Lochte Rule -- Eastin took about two underwater dolphin kicks on her back as she transitioned to her stomach on the freestyle leg, which apparently warrants a disqualification. Even more, Bethany Galat was disqualified for the same exact thing -- although her DQ came with a less severe implication as she would not have qualified for the team in this event otherwise.

With that being said, Elizabeth Beisel will now be joining Smith in Budapest to represent the United States in the 400m IM as she was the next finisher with a 4:38.55.
