Chase Kalisz: 'I Was Just In A Bad Place'

By his own high standards, Chase Kalisz was not particularly pleased with his performances in Santa Clara. Kalisz finished 5th in the 200m breaststroke (2:12.61), 7th in the 200m freestyle (1:50.47), and 1st in the 200m butterfly (1:56.60). While he has not competed much in the 200 free this summer, his 200 breast and 200 fly were off his season best times.
Coming down from altitude in Colorado Springs, CO at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, Kalisz typically swims lights out. But this time was different and Kalisz is puzzled because there were no indicators. One thing is certain, however -- Chase Kalisz has a legitimate chance of making the World Championship team in three to four events. If he wants to turn that into a reality he will have to move past his disappointment and reframe into a proper state of mind during taper and heading into Nationals.
