Nathan Adrian is a man of consistency. The 28 year-old Olympic champion has been a mainstay on the international sprinting scene since 2008-2009 and has never looked back.
On Friday night at the 2017 arena Pro Swim Series at Santa Clara, Adrian took the win in the 100m freestyle with a quick mid-season time of 48.55 -- just outside the world top ten this year and a touch off his 48.18 from Mesa in April. Adrian took this one start to finish, out first in 23.41 ahead of Marcelo Chierighini in 23.42, but had to hold off a hard charging Caeleb Dressel who ended up touching second in 49.26. Dressel also picked up a second place finish in the 100m butterfly earlier in the session with a 52.29.
Afterwards, Adrian chatted with us about how he has adjusted his race strategy with coach Dave Durden in order to formulate the perfect race. What does that entail and how does it do it? Take a listen.
