Tate Jackson -- rising junior at the University of Texas -- is a stud for the Longhorns in the sprint freestyle events. Jackson was a member of the Longhorn's NCAA championship 200 freestyle relay in 2017, splitting an 18.92 on the third leg.

It now looks like he has found success in the long course pool as well. Jackson went a lifetime best in the 50m freestyle Sunday night at the 2017 Speedo Sectionals in Austin, Texas with a 22.54 -- crushing his previous best of 22.79.

As a matter of fact, prior to June 24 Jackson had never been under the 23 second barrier in the 50. He went 22.79 at the Texas Open two weeks ago then followed that up with a 22.80 in prelims Sunday morning at Sectionals before ultimately lowering it to 22.54.

With that kind of progression, especially in-season, Jackson is poised for a massive swim next month at the U.S. Open in East Meadow, New York.

In the video interview above, Jackson talks about the intensity required to mentally prepare for the 50, what music he listens to before a race, and what he is looking forward to the most at U.S. Open.
