Steve West continues to prove age is just a number.

The 45 year-old breaststroke juggernaut broke the Masters world record in the men's 200m breaststroke for the 45-49 age group Sunday morning at the 2017 Novaquatics Speedo Grand Challenge.

Representing host club Irvine Novaquatics, West unloaded a blistering fast 2:22.46 -- destroying Vladislav Bragin's previous record of 2:24.32 set back in May of 2016. To put this in perspective, West placed fourth in prelims behind three current Cal swimmers -- Connor Hoppe (2:20.73), Matt Whittle (2:21.14), and Carson Sand (2:21.42). All four swimmers ended up scratching Sunday night's final session.

West also owns the 40-44 world record in the 200m breast with a 2:18.57 from the Los Angeles Invite back in 2015.

Of note, West dropped a swift 1:05.86 in the 100m breaststroke Friday morning, narrowly missing Bragin's 45-49 Masters world record of 1:05.30.
