Art Adamson Invite | Ledecky Drops 4:27, But Aggies Lead Cardinal

A top five battle between the No. 1-ranked Stanford women's team and No. 3 Texas A&M highlighted the opening night of finals at the 2017 Art Adamson Invitational in College Station, Texas, on Thursday.

As all expected, Stanford's Katie Ledecky lowered her morning 500 free to 4:27.84 on her way to an easy victory. However, that was the only win for the top-ranked Cardinal.

The Texas A&M women took night one of their home invite, led by junior Sydney Pickrem's impressive A-standard swim of 1:53.38 to win the 200 IM. The Aggies' Beryl Gastaldello also snagged an A-standard time in the 50 free with a 21.69.

Texas A&M edged the Cardinal by 0.15 to win the 200 free relay in a 1:28.37. In similar fashion, Gastaldello touched out Ledecky by 0.07 to win the 400 medley relay with a 3:29.47. Gastaldello split 47.11.

For the men, two swims stuck out above the rest: Texas A&M's Brock Bonetti threw down a 1:43.21 in the 200 IM, and Utah's Rahiti De Vos won the 500 free with a 4:16.81.

The Texas A&M men took the 400 medley relay with a 3:07.29, while Utah won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:18.09.
