What happens when some of the best age-group swimmers from around Texas collide with some of the best college swimmers in Texas?

Fast swimming.

The 2017 Speedo Southern Zone LC Sectional Championships will feature swimmers from powerhouse club teams Austin Swim Club, Lakeside Aquatic Club, Nitro Swimming, Cypress Fairbanks, and more alongside star swimmers from Texas and Texas A&M.

Texas took a small contingent to Indianapolis last week for U.S. Nationals and World Championship Trials, but left a significant amount home in Austin to get some more training under their belt heading into the U.S. Open in August.

One swimmer, however, is preparing for something larger.

Joseph Schooling already has an Olympic gold medal, taking down Michael Phelps and company last summer in the 100m butterfly. But the 22 year-old Singaporean has another target on his mind: Phelps' 100m butterfly world record of 49.82 set in 2009.

Schooling will be gunning for this record at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, which kicks off in less than three weeks. It won't come easy, however, with stiff competition from guys like Chad le Clos, Laszlo Cseh, and Caeleb Dressel.

In likely his last meet before Worlds, Schooling will be swimming at the Sectional Championships in Austin, TX July 6-9, which will be streaming LIVE on FloSwimming.

Schooling is currently scheduled to swim the 100m freestyle on Thursday and 100m butterfly on Saturday.
