Ledecky and Smith sit atop yet another women's mid-distance freestyle event with Katie a good 3+ seconds ahead of Leah. Running third after the prelims was Sierra Schmidt and fourth Cierra Runge who could be a threat to Smith tonight if they put together a great swim. Coming off of a dominant 400m IM win, watch for your No. 2 seed Leah Smith to try to challenge Ledecky for the top spot in the final.

Barely over one full second separating the top eight qualifiers in the men's 400m freestyle here. Now, I understand seeing this type of thing in the 50 or 100 freestyle, but in the 400?... Aside from the fact that it is a tightly bunched field...it's stacked. Smith, Haas, Shoults, Grothe, the names go on and on.

We saw King put up one of the quickest times in the world in the 200 with a 2:21 Wednesday night and then a stellar 50 just shy of the world record Thursday night, but now can she find a happy medium and crush this 100? We vote yes. After a seemingly relaxed prelim swim we're putting King down as a lock to win tonight's final followed by a good battle for second between a strong field featuring Hannis, Meili, Larson, and more.

Kevin Cordes has stepped on the gas and not taken his foot off at this meet. After putting up the second fastest time ever by an American in the 200m breaststroke (2:07.41) Wednesday night and scorching a couple of 26 high 50m breaststrokes we could see him not just sneak below, but crush the 59 second barrier tonight. The battle for second, much like the women's event is absolutely loaded. We could see 6-7 people breaking the 1:00 mark here and maybe a couple challenging the 59 second mark as well (especially since Miller has already done it).

Kathleen Baker was out right at world record pace at the 50 in the prelims and looked nice and smooth coming home on the second 50. The field isn't going to let her run away with this one too easily, however with four swimmers in total breaking the 1:00 mark and every swimmer under 1:01. Don't blink.

After a breakthrough performance in the 50m backstroke Thursday night and coming away with a ticket to Budapest, Ress is riding the wave of success and looking to take it all the way to shore in the 100 backstroke final tonight. Now....before we get too far ahead of ourselves listen to these names. Grevers. Murphy. Pebley. Lehane...Carr...I mean, wow. Took a 54.92 to even make it back.
