Just like Jay LitherlandJoseph Schooling sniffs blood in the water. The guy is an absolute gamer. According to University of Texas Assistant Coach Chase Kreitler and then confirmed by Schooling, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist unleashed a 50.7 100m butterfly in practice last Friday.

Why is that so significant? Caeleb Dressel swam a 50.87 at the U.S. Nationals just one day prior on Thursday to claim the No. 1 time in the world this year.

"I just got up in practice, put a suit on. I was pissed," Schooling said in the interview above. But according to Schooling, he hasn't done anything yet. He wants to put up an official time on Saturday at the Speedo Southern Zone LC Sectional Championships in Austin to claim his spot back on the throne going into the World Championships in a couple of weeks.

The 100m butterfly final in Budapest is on Saturday, July 29th -- just 23 days away. Mark your calendars and get your popcorn ready, folks because this one is going to be the race to watch.

Not to be overshadowed, Schooling also swam a very swift 48.74 (23.44/25.30) in the 100m freestyle Thursday night in Austin -- just outside the top 25 in the world this year and about a half a second off his best time of 48.27 from the 2016 Olympics.
