Day 3 Prelims | Vlad Morozov Tops Loaded 50m Free Heats In 20.72

Day three of the 2017 LEN European Short Course Championships continued Friday morning at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark. 

Events included the 100m breaststroke, 200m backstroke, 200m butterfly and 4x50 free relay for the women, and for the men -- 100m breaststroke, 200m IM, and the first individual swim for Vlad Morozov in the 50m freestyle.

Finland’s Jenna Laukkanen topped prelims with a 1:04.94 to follow up from her silver medal in Wednesday night’s 50m breaststroke. Behind her are big names Rikke Pedersen and Ruta Meilutye.

The big boys came out to play this morning and they didn’t mess around in the 50m freestyle prelims. Four men broke the 21-second barrier, with Morozov taking top seed in 20.72 and Olympic medalist Pieter Timmers taking the last spot through to semifinals in 21.58.

Katinka Hosszu will swim for her third gold medal of the meet in Friday's final, but will have to battle 2013 champion in this event, Daryna Zevina from the Ukraine, who took the top seed with a 2:02.86 in prelims.

Adam Peaty’s immortality is being tested after finishing with bronze in Wednesdays 50m final and missing the 200m final. He again got touched out in this morning’s prelims by Arno Kamminga, who took the top time in 56.63. Thursday night’s 200m gold medallist Kirill Prigoda and 50m gold medallist Fabio Scozzoli aren’t far behind, setting up a mouth-watering final on Saturday.
