10 Things To Consider Before Michael Phelps Races A Shark
When you think of the greatest head-to-head sporting matchups of all time, what comes to mind? Muhammad Ali versus Joe Frazier? Red Sox vs. Yankees? Magic Johnson vs. Larry Bird?

Think again. Michael Phelps vs. a great white shark -- the two most legendary specimens to ever grace the aquatic realm.

If you are like the FloSwimming crew, you have had endless debates -- borderline head-turning arguments -- on race strategy and all of the different variables associated with Sunday's duel on the Discovery Channel. So many questions have been swirling through our heads on how this epic race will play out.

Thus, we have compiled a list of 10 things to consider before the most decorated Olympian of all time takes on one of the fiercest predators in the ocean.

1.) Is the shark tapered?

The obvious No. 1 question on everybody's mind. How has the shark been preparing? Who has been coaching it? Is this its biggest race of the season? Or is it saving its taper for the chase of a sea lion later this summer?

2.) Does the shark even know it's a race?

This is a very valid question because if the shark doesn't even know it's a race, it may just chill there and swim in circles while Phelps sprints to ocean supremacy.

3.) Will the shark be in a tech suit?

We know that Phelps will be wearing a full-body suit, but what will the shark be wearing? Will it be suited up? Shaved? So many variables to consider.

4.) What is Phelps' race strategy?

Can Phelps hold his breath for 100 meters? We are willing to bet the shark can go the distance no-breath, thus giving it an advantage. However, Phelps has legendary closing speed and will certainly look to catch a draft and slingshot past the shark over the final 15 meters.

5.) What stroke is it?

It has already been confirmed that Phelps will be wearing a monofin, so the race has to be butterfly. Right? If that's the case, we are giving a strong edge to Phelps due to the shark's short fin length, lack of fin mobility, and inability to legally perform a butterfly kick.

6.) Are there officials?

*Ahem* Lochte Rule? We're looking at you on this one, shark. You better stay on your stomach.

7.) Is this a FINA-sanctioned meet?

THERE ARE NO RULES! OK, there is probably a rule or two. While FINA may not be mandating the structure of this competition, somebody better tell that shark to stay in its own lane.

8.) Will there be barriers -- such as lane lines?

What is going to keep Phelps from becoming the shark's next meal? We're worried for you, Michael. Better swim fast.

9.) Will the shark be drug tested?

Phelps is coming in at around 200 pounds. The great white shark is coming in at around 2,000 pounds. I mean, come on... 2,000 pounds? You're not fooling anyone there, shark. WADA better be knocking on your front door today.

10.) Boomer vs. Turtle: The Sequel

Let's be honest. This race is going to leave the swimming community... no, the entire world hungry for more. Everybody loves Boomer Phelps. Everybody loves turtles. Why not set them up for a race? That's a matchup more riveting than Conor MacGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather.

One thing is for certain: this battle will be decided at 8 PM EDT on Sunday on the Discovery Channel. Buckle up, folks.
