Between all three stops -- Monaco, Barcelona, and Canet-en-Roussillon -- the 2017 Mare Nostrum is rife with prize money for some of the world's best swimmers such as Katinka Hosszu, Chad le Clos, James Guy, and Yulia Efimova to pick up and put in their back pockets. While, yes, this is a great opportunity for top swimmers to prepare for the 2017 FINA World Championships -- it is also an opportunity to earn some cash.

Though the total amount of money awarded when all is said and done is not clear due to prize money being awarded for various records -- world records, European records, Mare Nostrum Tour records, and individual meet records -- it is floating somewhere in the neighborhood of $200,000 USD after converted from euros.

Let's take a look at the prize money breakdown ahead of the first stop on the tour in Monaco (June 10-11):

Monaco

World Record

A massive prize of 15,000 euros (16,830 USD) is offered by the Monegasque Swimming Federation (European, Mare Nostrum, and meet records included) for the first world record established in an A-final in Monaco during the first stop of the tour, granted the swim is approved by FINA.

European Record

For a European record -- the prize is 3,000 euros (Mare Nostrum and meet records included)

Individual Races (22 races)

1st -- 330 euros

3rd -- 90 euros

In case of a tie, all the records and races prizes will be shared in equal parts between the tied swimmers.
