Tight Semifinal Games Set Stage For MPSF Women's Water Polo Finals
Saturday's semifinal action from the 2017 MPSF Women's Water Polo Championships at UCLA's Spieker Aquatic Center in Westwood, CA, was action-packed as each of the three games were decided by one goal. With a shot to get into Sunday's championship game, it was clear these teams were laying it all on the line.

Game 4: #7 CSU Bakersfield - 10, #6 San Jose State - 9
Junior driver Ashley Paz dominated the game for CSU Bakersfield, notching an impressive six goals to lead the Roadrunners over San Jose State and into the fifth-place game versus Arizona State on Sunday.

"Ashley was unstoppable at times on both offense and defense today," CSU Bakersfield head coach Jason Gall said.

The Roadrunners win on Saturday marked their first win against an MPSF opponent since they joined the conference in 2013.

"I am so proud and excited for our seniors who have grown so much as players and people over the last four years," Gall said. "We are excited to be playing tomorrow for fifth place."

Game 5: #2 Stanford - 6,  #3 USC - 5
Mackenzie Fischer and Jordan Raney led the charge for Stanford, racking up two goals apiece in the highly anticipated rematch of last year's national championship game.

The Cardinal had a solid 3-1 lead going into the second half, but USC decided to make it interesting by scoring three times in the first four minutes of the third quarter to square things up at 4-4. Unlike the Golden State Warriors, Stanford did not blow this 3-1 lead and would go on to take the win 6-5.

With the win on Saturday, Stanford earned a date with top-seeded juggernaut UCLA at 2:30 PM PT.

Game 6: #1 UCLA - 9, #5 Cal - 8
The top-seeded UCLA squad managed to overcome a fourth-quarter deficit to take down fifth-seeded Cal 9-8 and move on to meet second-seeded Stanford in Sunday's championship game. Maddie Musselman led the way for the Bruins by notching a three-goal hat trick.

This game was certainly a tale of two halves. UCLA held the lead at the end of the first half 6-5, but Cal said, "not so fast..." and rattled off three goals to UCLA's one in the third quarter to take the lead 8-7. The final quarter was all Bruins as their stout defense shut out Cal and Musselman notched her third goal in the hat trick. Freshman Bronte Halligan sealed the deal for UCLA with her goal with 2:35 to go in the game.

Sunday's championship game will take place at 2:30 PM PT.
