Day five finals of the 2017 British Swimming Championships on Saturday featured a new British record and fastest time in the world this year from Ben Proud in the 50m freestyle. Proud unloaded a blistering-fast 21.32, leaving the field in his wake at the 15m mark.

The full list of events on the docket included the women's 50m backstroke, men's 50m freestyle, women's 400m freestyle, and the men's and women's 200m IM.

1.) Ben Proud -- 21.32 (British Record, QT)
2.) Thomas Fannon -- 22.21
3.) Jack Thorpe -- 22.53

BEN. PROUD. Wow. The fastest man in British history destroyed his own British record with a sizzling-fast 21.32 to become the 10th-fastest performer of all time. That time is clearly the fastest time in the world this year and sets him up well for some serious success at the World Championships this summer in Budapest. Proud, who barely missed the podium with a fourth-place finish in Rio (21.68), just unloaded a time that would have handily earned him an Olympic gold medal. Thomas Fannon snagged the silver in 22.21, and Jack Thorpe rounded out the podium in third with a 22.53.

Women's 400m Freestyle
British Record: 4:00.60 (Joanne Jackson, 2009)
European Record: 3:59.15 (Federica Pellegrini, Italy, 2009)
British World Champs QT: 4:03.43
Consideration Time: 4:06.86

1.) Holly Hibbott -- 4:06.37 (CT)
2.) Jazz Carlin -- 4:07.24
3.) Eleanor Faulkner -- 4:07.62

It was a three-woman race the entire way. At the 200m mark, Holly Hibbott (2:02.28), Jazz Carlin (2:02.31), and Eleanor Faulkner (2:02.53) had already developed a three-second lead over the rest of the field. Carlin -- the 2016 Olympic silver medalist in this event -- made her move to take the lead at the 300m mark, but in the end Hibbott got her hand on the wall first in 4:06.37, which is under Team GB's consideration time. Carlin snagged the silver in 4:07.24, and Faulkner rounded out the podium with bronze in 4:07.62.

Men's 200m IM
British Record: 1:57.12 (James Goddard, 2009)
European Record: 1:55.18 (Laszlo Cseh, Hungary, 2009)
British World Champs QT: 1:57.11
Consideration Time: 1:58.15

1.) Max Litchfield -- 1:58.10 (CT)
2.) Mark Szaranek -- 1:58.39
3.) Duncan Scott -- 1:58.44

Max Litchfield, the 400m IM champion and British record-holder in that event, returned to the pool to claim another British title, this time in the 200m IM with a time of 1:58.10 -- under the consideration time. Mark Szaranek had a half-second lead at the 150m mark but could not hang with Litchfield's charge at the end and settled for silver in 1:58.39. Duncan Scott, the British record-holder and fastest man in the world in the 100m free, opted out of the 50 on Saturday night and snagged the bronze with a 1:58.44.

Women's 200m IM
British Record: 2:06.88 (Siobhan-Marie O'Connor, 2016)
European Record: 2:06.12 (Katinka Hosszu, Hungary, 2015)
British World Champs QT: 2:09.56
Consideration Time: 2:10.75

1.) Hannah Miley -- 2:11.75
2.) Abbie Wood -- 2:12.62
3.) Molly Renshaw -- 2:13.21

Wow. Siobhan-Marie O'Connor, the British record-holder and Olympic silver medalist, got her hand on the wall first in 2:09.72 but ended up getting disqualified. O'Connor controlled this race from start to finish but unfortunately will not take the British title. Thus, Hannah Miley -- the 400m IM specialist -- took the win in 2:11.75. Abbie Wood snagged the silver in 2:12.62, and 200m breaststroke specialist Molly Renshaw rounded out the podium in third with a 2:13.21.
