2017 TYR JAX 50: How Does It Work?
The 2017 version of the TYR JAX 50 Sprint Dual Challenge kicks off this Friday evening in Jacksonville, FL, at the Bolles School.

How does it work?

The JAX 50 is a unique swim meet. Unlike a traditional format, where eight to 10 swimmers will race at one time for the top spot or the fastest time, the JAX 50 offers swimming fans a distinctive twist.

In a sport focused so heavily on the times on the scoreboard, spectators will have the opportunity to witness racing in its purest form -- mano a mano, one v. one. There is a winner. There is a loser. No consolation prize for the time on the scoreboard.

Swimmers will compete in a 50 LCM freestyle on Saturday morning (along with a 50m butterfly, backstroke, and breastroke -- which are not part of the finals) to earn a spot in the finals on Saturday evening. The finals will be contested in short course yards and every race will only feature two swimmers racing head-to-head in an NCAA bracket elimination-style format.

For the 10&U, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-16 age groups -- Eight female swimmers in each age group and eight male swimmers in each age group will be given a seed based on the preliminary results (which will be swum long course) of the 50 freestyle. The top performer out of prelims will receive the No. 1 seed, and the eighth-fastest performer will receive the No. 8 seed.

For the 17 and over age group -- there will be four female professional swimmers (Madison Kennedy, Daiane Becker, Kira Toussaint, and one other TBD) and four male professional swimmers (Cullen Jones, Josh Schneider, Nicolas Nilo, and Simonas Bilis) who will automatically earn the top four seeds. The No. 5 through 8 seeds will be earned via the four fastest times out of the preliminary heats.
