Adam Peaty, the 2016 Olympic Champion and World Record holder in the 100m breaststroke, is the best 100m breaststroker in history. By a long shot... Nobody in history has been within 1.2 seconds of his 57.13 from Rio. The next fastest performer? Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa from the 2012 London Olympics with a 58.46. At the elite level, it is unfathomable for someone to separate themselves from the competition by a margin as large as that, but Peaty has managed to do so.

The breaststroke legend decided to make his way over the pond to the United States to race in the 2017 arena Pro Swim Series in Indianapolis. In his signature event, the 100m breaststroke, Peaty dropped a smooth 58.86 for a new US Open record. That is the fastest swim performed on American soil. EVER. The old record? 58.94 from Kevin Cordes at the 2016 US Olympic Trials. Cordes was in this field as well and finished fourth with a 1:00.43.
