Well, that's a wrap from the 2017 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas. Hosted at Texas' Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, the UT men's team extended its Big 12 title streak to 21 straight years while the Longhorns women's team captured its fifth straight crown on Saturday. 

Trailing Texas' 1,081 points on the men's side, West Virginia finished second with 870 points. TCU took third with 702 points. To complete the sweep on the women's side, the Longhorns won their 15th overall Big 12 title with 991 points while Kansas took second with 683.5 points. Iowa State placed third with 591.5 points.

But beyond and beneath that, we saw a whole lot of fast swimming. We witnessed a slew of new Big 12 meet records, countless school marks, and a few more swims that set up big performances to come at the NCAA Championships next month in Indianapolis. Big 12 Meet Record: 1:51.21 (Tasija Karosas - Texas, 2016)

​​​Tasija Karosas​ and ​Claire Adams​ round two did not disappoint. After their thrilling race on Saturday night in the 100-yard backstroke, Adams and Karosas were neck and neck throughout the entire 200 yards. Karosas had a slight lead at the 175, but Adams turned it on picking up her tempo significantly on the last 25. However, it was too little too late and Karosas took the win with a new Big 12 meet record in 1:51.11. Adams finished right behind her in 1:51.16, good for an NCAA automatic qualifying standard. ​Kaitlin Harty ​and ​Quinn Carrozza​ finished third and fourth, separated by one-100th of a second in 1:54.28 and 1:54.29, respectively.

​​​John Shebat​ is a fearless racer. The sophomore from Texas took this race out in a 47.7 to the feet with his teammate ​Jonathan Roberts ​right behind him in 48.3. The two Longhorns were separated by two lanes, but they raced neck and neck the entire way. In the end, it was Shebat with a 1:39.74 taking the win, and Roberts right behind him with a 1:39.87. They were both just short of ​Jack Conger's​ meet record of 1:39.70, but they picked up NCAA automatic qualifying times, and both broke the 1:40 barrier for the first time which is significant for a backstroker. ​Josh Artmann​ of Texas finished third with a 1:43.09.

​​Rebecca Millard​ of Texas made it a sprint double this weekend with her win in the 100 freestyle. Her time of 47.90 was just short of the Big 12 meet record of 47.74 from 2010, but nonetheless a great swim and set her up well for when she is fully peaked at NCAAs next month. Grabbing the silver was Millard's teammate ​Anelise Diener​ who threw down a monster swim of 48.60 and a huge best time. That time is under what it took to qualify for NCAAs last year, but we will have to wait and see how things shake out. In third place was ​Laura Miksch ​of Iowa State in 50.17, just shy of breaking the 50-second barrier.

​Stop me if you have heard this before, but we have another 1-2-3 Texas sweep. If you throw in ​Jeremy Nichol's​ 42.65 from the B-final it would be a 1-2-3-4, and that's without ​Jack Conger​ and ​Joseph Schooling​. The Longhorns are ​deep​ in this event and it showed tonight. ​Brett Ringgold ​took the win with a 42.39 by blazing a 20.06 to the feet at the 50. ​Townley Haas​ came home strong over the last 25 but ran out of room and settled for silver with a 42.62. ​Tate Jackson ​grabbed the bronze with a 42.79.​​

​This one was all ​Joanna Evans​ of Texas from the get-go. She built a two-second lead at the 100 less than a minute into the race and took off from there, finishing with a 16:05.11. Evans split 28 high to 29 mid throughout the entire race, and this was certainly a good opportunity for her to set up a race strategy going into NCAAs. Look for her to break the 16-minute barrier there and score some points for the Longhorns. ​Emma Skelley​ of West Virginia grabbed the silver with a 16:23.44, and ​Keely Soellner​ of Iowa State finished in third with a 16:26.59.​

​​Clark Smith ​is automatic. The senior has broken 14:40 so many times he could do it in his sleep at this point. Put this into perspective: Smith has so much control over his race strategy and feel for pacing that after the first 200 he was between 26.4 and 26.8 on ​every single 50.​ He definitely had a little left in the tank; however, as he turned into another gear over the last 50 yards with a blazing fast 24.23. His time of 14:33.28 has only been bested by the 14:32 he went earlier this season at Texas Invite. Finishing second was West Virginia's ​James Koval​ with a 15:27.34 and third was ​his teammate ​Trayton Saladin​ with a 15:33.78. ​

​Madisyn Cox ​of Texas had this one in the bag from the start. The senior took this race out in a quick 1:01.3 to take the win with a time of 2:07.23, an NCAA Automatic qualifying time. She was already safely in the meet having posted a 2:07 earlier this season, but this race was a great indication of where she can be next month fully shaved and tapered at NCAAs. ​Emma Harris​ of West Virginia​ finished in second with a 2:12.37, and ​Kaley Downey ​of Kansas grabbed the bronze with a 2:15.32.​​

The great ones always show up regardless of the circumstance. Not shaved and tapered, Will Licon threw down a blistering 1:49.89 in the 200 breaststroke, winning by over seven seconds. To put this in perspective, five years ago a sub-1:50 200 breaststroke was mind-blowing and almost unfathomable. Will Licon broke that barrier in a prep meet for NCAAs where he could easy be 1:47. Don't expect him to run away too easily next month, though as ​Josh Prenot​ of Cal will be with him the whole way and can be 1:47 as well. Finishing second tonight was ​Sam Stewart ​with a 1:56.90 and in third was last night's 100 breaststroke champion ​Jake Armstrong​ of West Virginia in 1:58.00

​​What a race between ​Lauren Case​ and ​Remedy Rule​ of Texas. Case took this race with a 53.72 at the 100 and held on to take the win with a 1:53.85, an NCAA automatic qualifying time. Her teammate Remedy Rule came on strong on the back half but could not quite make up ground taking the silver with a 1:54.70. That time will certainly guarantee her a spot at the NCAA Championships. ​Morgan Carr​ of West Virginia snagged the bronze with a 1:58.80.

​​How about ​Jack Conger?​ The American record holder in this event, Conger has unfortunately played second fiddle to ​Joseph Schooling ​in the butterfly races over the past couple of years. But on Saturday, Conger threw down a blazing fast 1:39.17 to obliterate his own Big 12 meet record and post the fastest time in the country this season by a considerable amount. To put in perspective how insanely fast this duo is: before last year, a sub 1:40 200 butterfly was earth-shattering as ​Michael Phelps​ and ​Tom Shields​ had been the only two people to go 1:39. At the 2016 NCAA Championships, Schooling went a 1:37.9 and Conger a 1:38.0. Beyond Conger in this race, ​Max Holter ​took the silver with a 1:44.73, well off his 1:42 from this morning, and ​Will Glass ​grabbed the bronze with a 1:45.02.

​​The Texas women threw down a new Big 12 meet record with a 3:13.36 thanks to blistering splits on the first two legs from ​Rebecca Millard​ (47.86) and ​Claire Adams​ (47.46). Of note, Adams had a 0.38 reaction time and if she can clean that up in the next few weeks she could be popping off a 46 from a relay start. Not too shabby, not too shabby at all. Iowa State and Kansas tied for second with a 3:21.90, and West Virginia grabbed fourth place with a 3:22.99.​

​The final event... icing on the cake for the Texas Longhorns as they dominated in a new Big 12 meet record time of 2:48.66. This relay was extremely consistent with splits from ​Joseph Schooling​ (42.24), ​Jack Conger​ (42.35), ​Brett Ringgold​ (41.80), and ​Townley Haas​ (42.27). West Virginia finished second with a 2:58.23, led by a quick 43.29 leadoff from ​Merwane Elmerini, ​and TCU rounded out the podium with a 3:03.50. Of note, ​Tate Jackson​ threw down a MONSTER 42.40 leadoff in Texas' B relay.
