SEC Finals Day 5: Aggie Ladies Go Back-To-Back, Florida Men Five-Peat
That's a wrap from Knoxville, Tennessee, ladies and gentlemen. Take a bow, Texas A&M and Florida because you are the 2017 SEC Swimming & Diving Champions. The Aggie ladies and Gator men took over from day one and never looked back. For Texas A&M, this is their second-straight SEC title after ending Georgia's six-year run last year in Columbia, Missouri. For Florida, this is their fifth-straight SEC crown after they put an abrupt end to Auburn's 16-year reign back in 2013.

1650 FREESTYLE

Women
SEC Meet Record: 15:36.52 (Brittany MacLean - Georgia, 2016)
NCAA 'A' Automatic: 15:53.50
NCAA 'B' Consideration: 16:30.59

This one was all Ashley Neidigh of Auburn. The Senior swam steady for the first 850 yards and then shifted into another gear, consistently going 28s for the rest of the race and leaving the rest of the field in her wake. Her final time of 15:56.95 was just short of the NCAA Automatic qualifying time, but will certainly get her into the meet. Second place was Autumn Finke of Florida in 16:06.64 and touching third was Rachel Zilinskas of Georgia. Neidigh showed some serious emotion after her win as she passionately slapped the water and pointed to her teammates who were going wild on the sidelines.

NCAA 'A' Automatic: 14:44.43
NCAA 'B' Consideration: 15:30.39

Akaram Mahmoud of South Carolina was in control of this race from start to finish. The Junior claimed victory with a time of 14:38.91, which is a touch slower than his winning time last year of 14:35.49. At last year's NCAA Championships, Mahmoud was in position to claim the title until Penn's Chris Swanson split a blazing fast 24.38 over the last 50 yards to Mahmoud's 27.17. You can guarantee Mahmoud is on a mission to not let that happen again this year and taking this SEC championship is a good start. In second place was Florida's Mitch D'Arrigo with a 14:45.96 from the earlier heats and third was Mahmoud's teammate Cody Bekemeyer with a 14:49.09.

Caeleb Dressel just made a 41.24 100 freestyle look standard. This has been a night full of sweeps. This time around it was Texas A&M going 1-2-3 in the women's 200 breaststroke led by Sydney Pickrem in a 2:06.65. Pickrem came home in a blazing fast 32.22 over the last 50 yards, 1.2 seconds faster than anybody else in the field. This was anybody's race at the 175 and came down to the final five yards. Anton McKee of Alabama, Nils Wich-Glasen of South Carolina, and Fabian Schwingenschloegl of Mizzou were neck and neck inside of the flags, but in the end McKee lunged powerfully toward the wall and got his hands on the wall first with a 1:52.22. McKee previously won the title in this race back in 2014 when he was a Freshman. Touching second was Wich-Glasen in 1:52.41 and third was Schwingenschloegl in 1:52.61.

Women
SEC Meet Record: 3:11.23 (Georgia, 2013)
NCAA 'A' Automatic: 3:15.78
NCAA 'B' Consideration: 3:17.11

Going into the final leg of the final race, Texas A&M and Georgia were neck and neck. However, Beryl Gastaldello of A&M slipped off the start a little bit allowing Chantal Van Landeghem of Georgia to gain a substantial lead right off the bat. Van Landeghem's blazing split of 47.26 was enough to give Georgia the SEC title in a time of 3:12.19. Texas A&M finished second in 3:13.37, although I'm sure they won't mind as they have officially sealed the deal and claimed the SEC Team Championship. Auburn touched in third to snag the bronze medal in a time of 3:14.84. All three times secured NCAA Automatic qualifying times.
