200-Yard Medley Relay

ACC Meet: 1:35.43 (Louisville, 2016) 1:34.89 (N.C. State, 2017)
Conference: 1:35.43 (Louisville, 2016) 1:34.89 (N.C. State, 2017)
NCAA 'A' Automatic: 1:37.46

The N.C. State Wolfpack women led this one from start to finish, winning in a blistering time of 1:34.89 at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in Atlanta on Tuesday. Their time was almost two seconds under their seed time and well under the old meet and conference record of 1:35.43 set by Louisville last season. The defending champion Cardinals took second with a time of 1:35.69, and North Carolina took home third with a 1:36.39. Of note, Virginia was disqualified for an early exchange.

Is anybody doubting the N.C. State women, now? I don't think so. Their 200 medley relay victory marks the program's first conference title in this event since 1991. Braden Holloway has his team ready to swim and has done a tremendous job developing the program on both sides.

800 Freestyle Relay

Conference: 6:59.98 (Virginia, 2016) 6:56.21 (Virginia, 2017)
NCAA 'A' Automatic: 7:06.77

The Virginia women came back with a vengeance after a disappointing disqualification in the 200 medley relay. The Cavaliers, who are going for their 10th consecutive ACC Championship, demolished their own meet record in the 800 freestyle relay behind a strong leadoff split from Olympian Leah Smith in 1:43.60 and an even stronger anchor leg from Kaitlyn Jones in 1:42.96. N.C. State took second place, also going under the old ACC meet and conference record, in 6:59.73. Louisville took home third place in 7:01.62.

With N.C. State looking strong, it is going to be an uphill battle for Virginia the rest of the week as they try to make up points from the 200 medley relay DQ. After winning nine straight ACC titles, don't expect the Cavaliers do go down without a fight.
