Clark Smith Talks 17:42 2000 Freestyle

In an Eddie Reese Invite type meet, Texas and Arizona swam "off events" Saturday morning in an un-scored dual meet. There were countless impressive swims, but none more impressive than Clark Smith's 2000 freestyle. Yes, you read that right. Clark Smith of Texas swam a 2000 freestyle by himself. How did it go?

Smith threw down a mind-boggling 17:42. While that time may not provide a lot of perspective, take a look at this. Smith's first 1000? 8:51 - 4th fastest time in the country this year. Smith at the 1650? 14:37 - 3rd fastest time in the country this year. Smith's 17:42 is the fastest recorded time in the 2000, topping his own 17:44 from October of 2015.

When he went 17:44, his coach Eddie Reese said it "gave him chills." Check out the video and hear what the distance ace has to say.
