1650 FREESTYLE

NCAA Record: 15:03.92 (Katie Ledecky - Stanford, 2016)
American Record: 15:03.92 (Katie Ledecky - Stanford, 2016)
Pac-12 Meet Record: 15:40.17 (Cierra Runge - California, 2015)
NCAA 'A' cut: 15:53.50

Although the absence of teammate Katie Ledecky was notable, Stanford's Megan Byrnes (15:47.62) still took the first spot on the podium at the Pac-12 Women's Swimming and Diving Championship in Federal Way, Washington, on Saturday alongside fellow Cardinal Leah Stevens (15.57.87), who finished in second. The third-place finish went to Tjasa Oder from Arizona with a 15:59.47. Cal's Chenoa Devine scored fourth from the second to last heat. To put this in perspective: when Ledecky swims this race at NCAAs she could break the 15-minute barrier, which is a significant barrier for the men to break and would qualify for the men's NCAA Championships.

Rio Olympian Kathleen Baker threw down another phenomenal swim by dropping 1.78 seconds from prelims. She touched first with a 1:48.33 to break Elizabeth Pelton's meet record but fell short of her NCAA and American record time. We are officially putting this one on high alert, as Baker could crush it at NCAAs. Stanford teammates Janet Hu and Ally Howe finished second and third in 1:49.36 and 1:51.16, respectively. Amy Bilquist picked up fourth place (1:51.22), breaking up what could've been second- through fifth-place Stanford sweep.
