The Indiana Hoosiers won the 2017 Men's Big Ten Swimming & Diving Championships. Ohio State and Michigan tied for second place. The final night featured the 1650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 400 freestyle

Saturday marked the final night of the 2017 Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in Columbus, Ohio, and a tight three-team battle ended with Indiana taking the win with 1,504 points and Ohio State and Michigan tying for second with 1,382 points each. Minnesota finished in fourth place with Wisconsin trailing in fifth and Purdue closely behind in sixth. Blake Pieroni took down a Big Ten record on Saturday in the 100 freestyle along with the 400 freestyle relay for the champion Hoosiers.

FELIX AUBOECK. The Michigan freshman unloaded a new Big Ten meet record with a 14:29.25, just two-10ths of a second shy of a top 10 performance of all time. Coming in right behind him for the silver was the former Big Ten record holder and 2016 Olympian ​Jordan Wilimovsky​ of Northwestern with a 14:34.51. Rounding out the podium was ​Patrick Ransford​ of Michigan with a great swim of 14:38.72. All three of these guys picked up NCAA Automatic qualifying times and will look to face-off with ​Clark Smith​ of Texas and a slew of others here in a few short weeks.

Indiana's Bob Glover claimed a title for the Hoosiers on Saturday in prime form, almost even splitting a 1:41 in 50.4 and 50.8. At the 150 this was anyone's race, with the top five guys all between 1:15.2 and 1:15.9. But it was Glover who threw down the fastest final 50 yards in 25.58, the only one under 26, to take the victory and pick up major points for Indiana. ​Thomas Trace​ grabbed the silver in 1:41.92 and ​Luke Papendick​ of Michigan snagged the bronze with a 1:42.22

100 FREESTYLE

Hoosier Olympian Blake Pieroni took top honors in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall in 41.44 and absolutely shattering the Big Ten meet record by six-10ths of a second. The Nittany Lion's Shane Ryan was not far behind in 41.86, and the Badgers' Cannon Clifton nabbed bronze with a 42.25, tying the NCAA automatic qualifying time. Before Saturday, no other swimmer had eclipsed the 42-second mark at the Big Ten Championships. In the meet's final day, two men broke that barrier with times that will be competitive next month at NCAAs.

Purdue junior Marat Amaltdinov earned a hard-fought title in the 200 breaststroke, touching in 1:52.89, just ahead of Christopher Klein's 1:53.14. Klein's Michigan teammate Jacob Montague was not far behind in 1:53.33. Just like in the 200 backstroke, this was anyone's race at the 150. Amaltdinov held the lead over Klein 1:22.7 to 1:23.2, with Klein charging home in a 29.8 to Amaltdinov's 30.1. In the end, Klein ran out of room allowing Amaltdinov to claim the victory, a big win for Purdue.

Vini Lanza of Indiana swam a wonderful race, splitting 48.2/52.6, touching in 1:40.97, a personal-best time and Indiana school record. Standout Ohio State freshman Noah Lense ​shaved two seconds off his prelims time to grab second with a 1:41.44. Evan White of Michigan touched third in 1:43.42. Lanza and Lense were neck and neck the entire way, never more than a few 10ths apart, but Lense simply couldn't find that extra gear to overtake Lanza on the last 25.

400 FREESTYLE RELAY

The 400 freestyle relay was icing on the cake for the Indiana Hoosiers. Not only did they take the win with a new Big Ten meet record time of 2:48.29, but they also officially solidified the team championship. Not to mention, standout Hoosier ​Blake Pieroni​ threw down a MONSTER 40.99 on the anchor leg. Indiana couldn't write up a much sweeter finish than that.​ Ohio State finished second in 2:49.23, also under the previous record, with a very consistent squad of 42s across the board and Wisconsin finished third with a 2:50.66. Of note, Michigan faded to fifth place which allowed Ohio State to pull up in a tie for second place with them in the final team standings.
