Pac-12 Day Three Prelims: Ledecky Tops 400 IM, Janet Hu Doubles Up
The 2017 Women’s Pac-12 Swimming & Diving Championship continued this morning in Federal Way, Washington. After sweeping victories in every single event thus far, Stanford rode that momentum into day three where they claimed the top seed in four out of five events.

400 IM

Strong start for Stanford as they take four up in the A-final of the 400 IM. Katie Ledecky (Stanford) touches first with a 4:01.92. Ledecky will battle it out with her other three teammates Allie Szekely (4:02.70), Ella Eastin (4:03.13), and Leah Stevens (4:09.21), who finished second, third, and fourth, respectively. Ledecky might be the top seed, but watch out for Ella Eastin. Eastin was last night's champion in the 200 IM and the defending NCAA champion in the 400 IM. She specializes in the IM races, while Ledecky does not. Regardless, it will be a fantastic race. The rest of the A-final will include Celina Li (Cal), Hannah Cox (Arizona), Emma Schanz (UCLA), and Marlies Ross (ASU).

100 BUTTERFLY

Junior Janet Hu takes the lead finishing with a 50.38, which erases Farida Osman's Pac-12 meet record of 50.53 from 2016. Osman is in this A-final, so look for her to make a move. Cal secured three spots in the A-final, including Noemie Thomas who finished second with a 50.44, also under the old meet record. The two other Cal swimmers will include Osman (51.32) and Maddie Murphy (52.29).

200 FREESTYLE

Stanford’s Simone Manuel cruised to a 1:41.53 to lead prelims, followed by teammates Katie Ledecky (1:42.69) and Lia Neal (1:44.15). Stanford takes another four up in the A-final here, including Katie Drabot. Cal and USC have two swimmers each in this A-final, who should help with team points on the line tonight.

100 BREASTSTROKE

Stanford's win streak might finally be broken. Freshman Silja Kansakosi from ASU raced to the top spot this morning with a 58.82. Three USC swimmers will battle for some points as they are in the A-final tonight. Riley Scott and Kirsten Vose finished second and third with a pair of 59s. The third USC swimmer will be Kelsey Kafka who finished 6th place with a 1:00.62. Will USC chase third for team points ahead of Arizona? Stanford's lone swimmer here was Kim Williams in fourth with a 1:00.30.

100 BACKSTROKE

Stanford’s Janet Hu continues to improve tremendously during this meet as she broke another meet record of 50.64 that was set by Rachel Bootsma (Cal). Hu torched this race with a 50.29. Teammate Ally Howe was also under the meet record and finished second with a 50.47. Finishing third was Linnea Mack of UCLA and Kathleen Baker for fourth who also went sub 51. Four girls at 50 point in prelims? This is going to be one heck of a race tonight.
