BOOM. Vladimir Morozov kicked off the final session of the 2017 Russian Nationals on Friday with a new Russian record and the No. 1 time in the world this year.

Morozov uncorked a massive 21.44 in the semifinals of the 50m freestyle in Moscow, breaking his own Russian record of 21.47 set en route to a silver medal at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona, Spain.

That time ties him with Cameron McEvoy of Australia as the 15th-fastest performer of all-time. Speaking of McEvoy, Morozov's 21.44 also leapfrogs McEvoy's 21.55 from the Australian Championships on Sunday as the top time in the world in 2017.

Morozov, who failed to make the Olympic final entirely in Rio, dropped a time Friday that would have earned him a bronze medal in Rio and only 0.04 of a second off the 21.40 that Anthony Ervin swam for the gold.

In the finals, which occurred about an hour and 40 minutes later, Morozov was actually out-touched by Evgeny Sedov 21.74 to 21.76.

In the finals of the women's 100m breaststroke, Yulia Efimova made it a breaststroke sweep with a 1:05.90 -- the second-fastest time in the world this year behind Reona Aoki of Japan's 1:05.20. Efimova swam a world No. 1 2:21.35 in the 200m breaststroke earlier in the meet on Wednesday.

Efimova is the fifth-fastest performer of all time in the 100m breast with her 1:05.02 from the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona.

Kuimov Egor posted a strong performance in the finals of the men's 100m butterfly -- dropping a 51.97, the fifth-fastest time in the world this year.
