NCAA Day One Finals: Stanford Obliterates Record Books In 800 Free Relay

800 FREESTYLE RELAY

NCAA Record: 6:49.42 (Stanford, 2017) 6:45.91 (Stanford, 2017)
American Record: 6:49.42 (Stanford, 2017) 6:45.91 (Stanford, 2017)
US Open Record: 6:49.42 (Stanford, 2017) 6:45.91 (Stanford, 2017)

Stanford just obliterated their own NCAA, American, and US Open Record by three and a half seconds with a MONSTER 6:45.91 to win this event by over five seconds. To put this in perspective, the Stanford ladies were the first ones to break the 6:50 barrier with a 6:49 at the Pac-12 Championships a few weeks ago and just busted that door wide open tonight. They were consistently great across the board with splits from Simone Manuel (1:41.41), Lia Neal (1:42.15), Ella Eastin (1:41.89), and Katie Ledecky (1:40.46).

Cal finished second with a very solid time of 6:51.42. Like Stanford, they were very consistent across the board with a 1:42.66 leadoff from Kathleen Baker and followed by splits of 1:43, 1:42, and 1:42. Michigan finished in third with a 6:53.63 led by a 1:41.81 from Siobhan Haughey on the third leg. Of note, Mallory Comerford of Louisville had the fastest split in the entire event from the second heat with a blazing fast 1:40.21 for the Cardinals.
